ACCRA CITY TOUR I (Day Tour: 8:00am – 3:30pm)
We pick you up at your hotel at 8:00am for a discovery tour of Accra, Ghana’s capital.
Our first point of call is the University of Ghana. A guided tour of the campus from 8:30 to 9:30 will not only give an insight of formal education in Ghana but also reveal the composite value of this premier University in the country.
Having a taste of urban Ghana’s road traffic, we drive some 60 minutes along one of Accra’s major roads to the central business district. At 11:00 am, we enter Makola, the famous open market to sample the Ghanaian commercial hustling and bustling environment. After a snack break, we drive to Jamestown, the oldest quarters of Accra for a cultural and historical dose of indigenous Accra. From the top of the 145-year old Lighthouse, we appreciate the unique layout of Old Accra and climaxing the tour at the Jamestown community fishing harbor.
At 2:00 pm, we visit Osekan Restaurant or one of the beach restaurants for lunch.
We then move to close-by Arts and Craft center, by 2:50pm for bargains of souvenirs and cultural artifacts before driving back to the hotel/drop-off point by 3:30 pm.
Akwaaba! Have a pleasurable tour.
ACCRA CITY TOUR II (Day Tour: 8:30am – 4:00pm)
We discover today the cultural beauty of the city of Accra. Starting from the national museum, we drive to Teshie-Nungua to visit a world-renowned casket manufacturing center. See and capture the various designs with your camera and learn all about the philosophy behind the unique shapes. We return to Accra driving through the national ceremonial and parade grounds (Black Star Square) dominated by the Independence Arch. After learning about the symbolism and value of Ghana’s Independence, we continue to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum located on former segregated polo grounds that is now the symbol of Ghana’s freedom. A brief guided tour and photo opportunity follows. Lunch follows at one of the city-center open restaurants or at a beach restaurant close-by.
Thereafter, we visit Accra’s oldest quarters known as Ga Mashie, to compare the old and the new. We return to our hotel, driving through the vibrant central business area. We arrive back at the hotel/drop-off point at 4:00pm.
ACCRA CITY TOUR III (Day Tour: 8:30am – 3:45pm)
Our Accra city tour today begins at 8:30am. From the hotel/pick-up point, we drive through old European quarters, to the famous Black Star Square. After a photo opportunity, we make a brief stopover at Tema Station, the second largest intra-city lorry terminal in Accra for a short walkabout and another photo opportunity. Next, we stopover at the Arts and cultural centre, to see the range of craft items on sale and for those who want it, to make morning bargains for their picks.
The next stop is Kwame Nkrumah Memorial park and Mausoleum at 10:15am. Here, we have 30 minutes guided tour and crowning it with 15 minutes photo opportunity. A snack break at the Rawlings’ Park will offer us a drive-through along downtown commercial area. Get your cameras busy as you are confronted with scenes that are better described by you yourselves.
Continuing, we drive through Ga Mashie town-ship, a community that gave birth to modern Accra. You’ll learn all about their relationships with the Dutch and/or the British in the 17th and18th centuries. Note any peculiarities that boggle your mind? Just relax and hear the details explained to you by the local guide. With specific stops at the 1871-built Lighthouse and the community fishing harbor, we round up our tour by driving some 15 minutes to Korlebu Teaching Hospital, the flagship hospital built in 1925.
We drive back to our hotel/drop-off point via Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, known to some of the locals as “petit Dubai”.
